The city of Gary, one of the poorest in Indiana, is now one of the latest places in the U.S. to have a guaranteed income pilot program. One hundred and twenty five residents are now receiving an extra $500 a month with no strings attached. City leaders hope it will be a valuable tool in fighting the poverty that has gripped the city for decades.
